Load Bank Testing

Load Bank Testing for Standby and Prime Power Generators

A generator that starts isn’t the same as a generator that can carry your load. Load bank testing proves it, under controlled conditions, before an outage does.

What a load bank test proves

We connect a load bank and run your generator at increasing levels of its rated capacity. That shows whether the engine, cooling system, fuel system, and electrical output perform as designed under real load, not just at idle. It also burns off “wet stacking”: unburned fuel and carbon that build up in diesel engines that run light or only during weekly no-load exercise.
Who needs it

How a test runs

01. We review your unit.

We review your unit's rating and site layout and plan the test.

02. We connect the load bank.

We connect the load bank and step the load up in stages.

03. We record all data.

We record voltage, frequency, temperatures, and pressures at each stage.

04. System confirmed ready.

We return the system to normal standby and confirm it's ready.

Your test report

You receive documented readings from every stage, any issues found, and recommended next steps. It’s the record your inspector, insurer, or compliance team will ask for.

FAQ

How often should a generator be load bank tested?
Many critical facilities test annually. NFPA 110 sets specific requirements for some emergency systems. We’ll tell you what applies to your site.
Load bank tests are typically done without transferring your building load. We’ll plan around your operations.
It depends on the size of the unit and the test required. Most tests can be completed in a single visit.
Yes. We test all major brands.

Why Keystone

Keystone was built by generator people who know what happens when backup power fails at the wrong moment. We’re a one-stop shop: the same team that maintains your generator can repair it at 2 a.m., rent you a unit while it’s down, and help you specify its replacement. We’re in it for the long haul, not a quick buck.
